Giữa thảm họa, chàng phi công cứu hộ Ray (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) may mắn tìm thấy Emma (Carla Gugino), người vợ mà anh xa cách bấy lâu.Hai người quyết định lên đường tới San Francisco để tìm kiếm cô con gái Blake (Alexandra Daddario). Song, thảm họa thiên nhiên chưa dừng lại ở đó và khiến tính mạng gia đình Ray trở nên cực kỳ mong manh.
