Chuyện phim xảy ra trong một thành phố hư cấu được gọi là San Fransokyo (một từ ghép giữa San Francisco và Tokyo), một thần đồng chế tạo trẻ tuổi tên là Hiro Hamada và người bạn rô-bốt y tế BAYMAX do anh trai cậu Tadashi Hamada, tao ra. Vô tình phát hiện ra cái chết của anh trai có liên quan đến một nhân vật bí ẩn đeo mặt nạ, Hiro cùng BAYMAX và một nhóm những chiến binh nghiệp dư, từng là bạn của Tadashi, bao gồm: Wasabi-No-Ginger, Honey Lemon, GoGo Tomago, và Fred lên đường truy tìm danh tính thực sự của kẻ đeo mặt nạ.
